The Mexican Manhattan Restaurant fast became a prodigious success. Unfortunately, the restaurant’s success seemed short-lived when, in the spring of 1961, Tony was notified that he must vacate the premises as it had been sold for the expansion of then San Antonio Mayor Walter McAllister’s business, the San Antonio Savings Association. Fortune smiled upon Tony, however, as Farley’s Department Store, located directly across the street, closed its doors and the space became available. In the fall of that same year, Tony relocated the restaurant and there it remains today.
